What is Health Care?

In the past couple of years healthcare has become a hot topic. To be honest, I don't know much about the healthcare system except that it affects hospitals trips and doctors and stuff. So let me define it to start: healthcare is any service related to the health, both mental and physical, of a person. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the goal of healthcare is to ensure the good health of the population as well as fair financial contributions from the population and government.
I was flipping through the textbook today and it really caught my attention when it was describing how culture can influence what we define as health and illness. And I feel that it is totally true! If you think about the Nacirema article, some of their rituals and beliefs about the body and illness totally contradicts our society's view of the body. And depending on a society's view of being healthy and being sick impacts the healthcare systems around the globe so my plan is try and find some information about other cultures healthcare systems.

  1. I agree with you. No matter what, society will always influence us, even if it's health care. There's always going to be people who are complaining about our health care because there are always people who will be against what is given to them. We could have the best health care in the world in history and there still would be people who would complain about the font it was written in. It's important to stay informed on what is always going on in the world.
